Ian Burke

Ian was born in Saltburn, on the North Yorkshire coast and was brought up in nearby Redcar. After studying Fine Art at Newcastle University he worked as a labourer on the North Sea oil rigs for two years before continuing his studies at Goldsmiths College, London. Much of Ian's work is inspired by the boats, building and people of the fishing village of Staithes, close to his home on the North York Moors. A dedicated teacher, Ian has taught in several schools and is now Head of Art at Eton College.
